I moved into a third floor apt two months ago. I noticed recluse spiders right away but thought they had traveled with me on my move from Arkansas. Soon there were several a day and had the apt sprayed and glue traps set. Within a week, I had 20+ caught and even captured some in jars and bags to show the office manager. They "bombed" the attic space and I had to vacate 4 hrs. The sightings reduced about 2 weeks then wham..more and more showed up in sinks, tub, on my bedrm wall, and now I'm fed up~ I want to break my lease and move either to another apt or complex. I understand that recluses cannot be totally irradiated especially after such infestation. The pest control states they have been dealing with this problem for over 2 yrs since he's been employed. I realize now that the office rented me this apt KNOWING that it was infested and deliberately put me at risk!!! Do I have grounds to break my lease? Can I claim this apt to be dangerous? I am considering alerting the other renters in my building since the neighbor as also been dealing with the spiders. I have to shake my clothes after they've been in the closet, I have to check my tub every morning for spiders on my tub, on my towels and carpet. My sister has seen them on her bed!! We were so happy to move into this apt and planned to stay 5 yrs..but knowing about the infestation~ we gotta move..and I want the office to cover my cost for all of it!!I have tons of pix..but how do I post them??

Hello DarJadon,

I think it will be difficult for you to use that as a reason to break the lease because Brown Recluse infestations are pretty common. For instance, one study found that 70% of homes in Missouri have them.

If you decide to stay, setting numerous traps in key areas will greatly reduce the population and can eventually eliminate them.
