If it started as a pimple, it is more likely to be a skin condition or infection. Did you happen to notice any fang marks initially?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi again Tom. Another question i have is.. When someone is bitten by a recluse does every person get a rotting of the skin like some pics i have seen? I assume it depends on amount of injected venom as well as the persons matabalism or immune system. Or are the recluse in california less venemous then in other places? OMG just 1 more question...is it possible to have the recluse move in to a yard and own it? Killing my jumping spiders i use to see alot of around here come to think of it HECK tom i dont see hardly any insects around but these darn recluse or recluse look alike spiders i seam to be infested with? I am also very very affraid of spiders.

Hello Cowgirl,

There are several skin conditions/diseases that can produce necrosis or necrotic looking wounds, which complicates the proper diagnosis of a Brown Recluse bite. Lyme Disease, Cellulitis, Necrotizing fasciitis, Gangrene, are among them.

The Brown Recluse spider is equally venomous no matter where it finds its home. Bite wound progression will vary depending on the amount of spider the venom injects, and the location of the bite wound. Fatty areas are more likely to experience the most serious wounds, and yes the immune system is a factor.

Brown recluses consider homes to be an ideal habitat, and they like to hide in walls, ceilings, boxes and other undisturbed places when resting or breeding. As long as a homeowner does nothing to remove the spider, they are unlikely to ever want to permanently leave.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks,

Tom
